Cefpodoxime Proxetil

Cefpodoxime proxetil is an orally administered, broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic prodrug belonging to the third-generation cephalosporin class of antibiotics. Once absorbed, it is rapidly de-esterified in the gastrointestinal tract to its active metabolite, cefpodoxime. It exhibits bactericidal activity by inhibiting cell wall synthesis in susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage depends on the type and severity of infection, patient age, and renal function. Oral tablets should be taken with food to enhance absorption. Oral suspension can be administered with or without food. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms resolve earlier.
